Synthetic Duvets

What Determines Synthetic Quality?

The quality of a synthetic duvet varies and is dependent upon the type of fibres, the density, thread count and allergenic factors.

Fibres in a synthetic duvet are ordinary, slick or cluster. Ordinary fibres are cheap and are not allergenic. A slick fibre provides better insulation than an ordinary one and are a middle of the road choice. A Cluster fibre’s goal is to recreate the effect of goose down. Fibres are not stuck in one place but instead are spread everywhere in the duvet. The higher the thread count on the duvet, the better it will stand up to wear and washing.

Care of a Synthetic Duvet

Can A Synthetic Duvet be washed?
Yes. Note that although they are machine washable, the garment must not be squashed in your washer or dryer. It may be necessary to use a commercial washer & dryer to keep your duvet in its optimum condition. Refer to the manufacturers instructions for care of their specific product.

Can synthetic products be dry cleaned?
Dry cleaning is not recommended. Refer to the manufacturer’s instruction for care of their specific product.

How do I store my synthetic products?
Synthetic products should be stored in a breathable bag. Once removed from storage, it should be shaken out to allow the fibres to fluff up. The Duvet should not be compressed for extended lengths of time.

What is...

Density (ounce/square inch): Density is a measurement of the amount of filling in the duvet. The higher the density, the heavier the duvet. High density will last longer than a low density duvet and allow the filling to stay more evenly disbursed.

Thread Count: This is the number of threads per square inch of woven fabric. The higher the thread count, the tighter the weave which gives the fabric a softer feel.

Hypo-Allergenic: Products that are hypo-allergenic have a decreased tendency to provoke an allergic reaction. Care is taken in the manufacturing process to provide reduced instances of allergic reaction.

Anti-microbial: Capable of destroying or inhibiting the growth of micro-organisms
